Forget me not
Or forget me. It’s all the same.
Have you ever found yourself in a moment Where everything feels so utterly perfect That you can’t help but try hold its bright and burning edges as close as possible to your heart? it only hurts because you know you cant keep it there. You know you cant stop here and now becoming there and then And you’re faced with the relentless undeniable truth that You Will Forget It All. Every step on this late evening walk Each word I speak to fill the quiet night. Each shaft of moonlight playing over your face Everything. It’s hard not to think about. And its so stupid. It’s so utterly stupid when I just want to enjoy this moment because I cant stop thinking about when its going to be gone But then you squeeze my hand And tell me to list all the pretty things i can see Because then someone else can know with me And we can keep that in our hearts for a long time Because then at least I wont forget it alone And when i do it’s only half as bad. We walk and take turns pointing the pretty things out A ladybird on a rotting log the moon, perfectly halved A raven we’re sure means good luck We even spot some deer through the tall grass And oh, how perfect A forget-me-not
“It’s pretty” “Very” “I wonder if it’s lonely” “No look, it’s got a friend” I squint my eyes and sure enough You’re right, just behind the first. A pair. We walk further “I like the dandelions” you add, You pick two out of the ground and we blow I wish to never forget this day You wish to always have me We’re almost home now, my legs hurt. Maybe this walk was a bad idea I know I’m wrong though, when I see the sky. “The stars are really pretty tonight” i tell you “I know” you say But you don’t look to the sky You look at me.
